John Haymond, author of “The Infamous Dakota War Trials of 1862,” will speak about Henry Sibley and his complex relationship with the Dakota before, during, and after the U.S./Dakota War of 1862.
Sibley interacted with the Dakota as a friend, family member, business associate, negotiator, politician, advocate, adversary, and judge. All of those experiences combine to create the full picture of his very complicated history with the Dakota – both positive and negative.
John Haymond is the executive director of the Mower County Historical Society in Austin, Minnesota.
